How Is Gypsum Walls Recycled
After a big construction or remodeling work, it is chances are that you will get a good bit of sheetrock left to get rid of. If you only have a few scraps or a ton of old sheetrock bits, gypsum walls recycling is one thing that you shall consider.
Even though it may be an easier choice to simply put all those wastes to a trash bin and send it for dumping at the nearest landfill, you should know that when sent to landfills, drywall emits polluting gases such as hydrogen sulfide or sulfur dioxide.
But recycling sheetrock works beneficially in various ways. It can be reused into many other projects, to saves spending, making possible new business opportunities, and is more earth friendly.
It is often cut into new drywall pieces, it is possible to use it in some cements, and has recently been discovered as a soil amendment. The state of California has implemented this amendment, noticing that it is a good source of calcium and sulfur for crops in natural uses.Even though that usage is still being audited and under some dispute, it is a certainty that in the future many more uses for this recycled material.
So how do you go about recycling sheetrock? You should first find a drywall recycling location. We have for example a construction waste recycling center in Montreal, called Recyconstruction that will take these type of products. Most recycling centers are now accepting drywall, but you will want to call them ahead to be certain. You must also check out if it will be required to haul the product to the recycling facilities on your own. Some recycling centers like Recyconstruction will actually bring a truck to pick it up for you.
Not all facilities will in fact take all type of gypsum walls the way Recyconstruction does. You might have to carefully inspect the sheetrock before you turn it in to the recycling facility.
If you are working on a project for a long term, it is a good move to set aside a large bin reserved for these wastes. It will remove excessive chaos while you are saving these to send to the recycling center. Convince everyone to be involved in the project and make sure they know what that container is for and that you are going to recycle its contents.
If you are doing an expensive project, you may want to consider investing in a serviced recycling truck. This way you won’t have to worry about it and can rest with peace that you are making your part to make the best thing for the environment.
If you don’t have time to deal with this plan yourself and don’t wish to have a recycling handling service, you could also donate your largest drywall panels to a nonprofit organization in need.Maybe one of these NGO will make use of the materials to make a center or shelters for people in need.
